Before you arrive
Your ticket lands on your phone as soon as you book, so there is nothing to print. Pick your language when you book, and look at the starting times on the date you want.
At the door
The meeting point is the Opera House itself at Andrássy út 22. The front is part of the visit: statues of Erkel and Liszt stand in niches either side of the main entrance.
The staircase and the frescoes
The tour description singles out the frescoes of the auditorium and the design of the staircase. The stairs were built for being seen on, a sweeping flight where Budapest society arrived in its best clothes.
Stories as you walk
Your guide talks through the building's history: Ybl's plans, the opening in 1884 and the full restoration of the house. Guests rate the guides well, at 4.6 out of 5 on GetYourGuide.
The song at the end
The hour closes with a short live concert. Guests describe a mini opera concert in the big auditorium, and it comes up in review after review.
If rehearsals are on
The house can cancel tours during rehearsals and offers another date. On some days the light in the auditorium is dimmer than usual.
